‘A Long Journey’, 1972
In 1930 or 1931, while the family took a touring holiday, Folke chose the path of adventure, got hold of a bicycle and decided to cycle over the St Bernard Pass. On the very heights, which Hannibal had crossed with elephants two millennia before, he was engulfed in a violent hailstorm.
Only lightly clad, he was mighty relieved to find a cave to take refuge in. But there, in the gloom, he became fascinated by various creepy crawlies which etches themselves into his memory. The storm cleared and he descended into the beautiful valley of Aosta.
