Eriksbergs School, Uppsala 1961
In 1961 Folke won a contract to make a mural for Eriksbergs School on a 40 metre long internal cast concrete wall. Inspired by the poems of Saint-John Perse who chose his words to resonate with the external forces around us, veiled in abstraction. Folke wanted a wall representing Earth, Wind and Sea, describing how “the wall happened in an exciting way as my artisitic work began before the building came into being, with Lasse and Nisse Andersson applying many shapes to the inside of the shuttering, sawing and hammering manfully in the icy conditions”. At the final stage, Mieke and Beatrice, his daughters, helped to paint the whole area.
In 2007, this popular decoration was in good condition but faded, soon afterwards the schools art department repainted it in a very successful, low cost restoration.
