Thulehuset 1959
At Sveavägen 44, in the centre of Stockholm, Skandia at their headquarters were adapting what had been a roof terrace into an eighth-floor staff restaurant.
With commanding views of the city on one side, Folke made a ceramic tile wall for the other. He describes how he wanted to “create a special feeling of friendly and pleasurable lightness, of summer breezes through the trees, a pastoral idyll of bathing, and dreams of holidays”.
Folke painted the ceramic tiles, measuring 30 x 30cms each, which were then fired at Russel-Tiglia Ceramic Works based in Tegelen, Holland.
The wonderful photographs of Folke supervising the work and then of the finished room are such a valuable record to have.
