Engelbrekt 1964
This magnificent church in Stockholm of cathedral proportions, was designed by Lars Israel Wahlman and completed in 1890.
In the early 1960’s Folke was working with the architect Rolf Bergh painting the restored organ shutters.
He was then asked to provide a new design for the altar of the student side chapel using the theme “The Moon over Golgotha”. Folke made his new windows to be part of a large, all encompassing decorative design with trompe-l’oeil perspective wall paintings covering the curved walls and the vault of the apse of the chapel.
Set at the front of the altar recess was a delicate ironwork silhouette of the moon, aligning with the glass windows and the painted patterns on the walls and vault.
Folke produced this amazing concept which shows his visual skill and imagination, as well as his mastery in making the glass windows, marking out and painting the walls, and overseeing the installation of the delicate ironwork. Multi-medium genius indeed.
Alas in a restoration of 1990, all Folke’s work was removed. However, the organ shutters can be seen in Engelbrekt Museum.
