Njurunda 1958
This large church was built in 1885 and, as the photographs show, is in the ornate style of classical architecture of the earlier 18th century. So here, Folke as the leading avant-garde designer and maker of stained glass is commissioned for the three huge windows behind the altar, the focal point of the very grand and formal church.
Look at the detailing close up, there is so much to see and marvel at. Folke, using his lightest and most delicate colours and tones, shows the scene of the fishes being brought onto the boat, we are told the boat almost sank there were so many. The strength and strain in the scene and the beauty of the image in painted glass and lead is fabulous.
The two flanking windows are an impressionistic triumph in glass, alive and shimmering in the light. Most of all, the light pours into the church though his glass.
