Toresund 1957
In 1955, the church committee of Toresund purchased some very striking steel profile windows Folke made in his own studio and had shown at an exhibition in Hälsingborg that year called “H55”.
The windows show the symbols of the four Evangelists. John’s symbol is an eagle, for Luke an ox, his gospel begins with Zacharias’ sacrifice. The winged lion is the emblem of St Mark, the winged angel is the emblem of St. Matthew.
These four designs were incorporated into a full chancel window, with ‘The Tree of Life’, and all was finished for Advent 1955.
Folke was later commissioned to make a crucifix, a wonderful altar rail and a woven altar carpet during the restoration of this ancient church that dates back to the establishment of Christianity in Sweden. The church is at a place historically called “Thor’s Sound” in the heartland of the Swedish Vikings on the edge of Lake Mälaren, the third largest freshwater lake in Sweden.
